Cyprus Grill vs. Traditional Spit Rotisseries: Which One Suits You Best?

If you love a proper Greek BBQ, you’re probably tossing up between a Cyprus Grill and a traditional spit rotisserie.

Both cook meat low and slow over charcoal, both give you that unreal smoky flavour, and both will make you the king of BBQs. But which one actually suits your cooking style?

Let’s break it down so you don’t end up with the wrong setup.

What’s the Difference Between a Cyprus Grill and a Traditional Spit?

Cyprus Grill → Multiple small skewers spinning over charcoal.

Traditional Spit Rotisserie → One large spit for whole lamb, pork, or roasts.

Both setups turn your meat automatically , but they’re made for different types of cooking.

If you love variety and faster cooking, go Cyprus Grill.

If you want to cook whole animals or big cuts, go Traditional Spit.

What Kind of Meat Do You Cook Most?

Love whole lamb, pork shoulders, or large beef roasts?
✔ Get a Traditional Spit Rotisserie – Designed for big cuts that need 4+ hours of slow cooking.

Prefer Greek-style souvla, gyros, pork roast, or smaller meats?
✔ Go for a Cyprus Grill – Perfect for chunks of meat, smaller roasts, or even chicken wings

Tip: A Traditional Spit is best for big BBQs, while a Cyprus Grill is better for more variety and quick feeds.

How Much Time Do You Want to Spend Cooking?

Cyprus Grill Cooking Time: 1-2 hours

• Cooks faster because the skewers are smaller.
• Great for weeknight BBQs or when you don’t have all day.

Traditional Spit Cooking Time: 4-6+ hours

• Needs low & slow cooking for big roasts.
• Perfect for whole lambs, large pork shoulders, and big events.

If you want quick, easy cooks, go Cyprus Grill.

If you enjoy slow-roasting, get a Traditional Spit.

How Many People Are You Cooking For?

╰┈➤ Cyprus Grill – Perfect for smaller groups (under 30 people).
╰┈➤ Traditional Spit Rotisserie – Best for big BBQs (30+ people).

Tip: If you’re cooking for the whole family or a big gathering, a Traditional Spit Rotisserie is the better option—it can handle big meats with plenty of leftovers.

How Much Space Do You Have?

Cyprus Grill:

• Compact – Fits on balconies, patios, and smaller backyards.
• Portable – Easy to move around.

Traditional Spit Rotisserie:

• Needs more space – Best for larger backyards.
• Portable – Not as easy to move, but they can be moved and locked into place.

If you have limited space, a Cyprus Grill is a great choice.

Do You Want to Cook with Gas or Charcoal?

• Cyprus Grill: Charcoal only – Gives you that authentic smoky Greek BBQ flavour.
• Traditional Spit Rotisserie: Charcoal or Gas – More flexibility, especially if you want the option to cook without tending a fire.

If you love the smoky flavour of traditional souvla, Cyprus Grill is a winner.

If you want the convenience of gas, go for a Traditional Spit.
