Best Seasoning for Chicken

Whether spinning on a spit, frying in a pan, baking in an oven or being dunked in a vat full of scalding hot oil, chicken is one of the most versatile proteins you can cook. But, with the seemingly endless sea of Chicken rubs and seasonings on the market, it can be intimidating knowing which flavour to go with.

To make things easier, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourites!

  1. Clucking Mad by Flaming Coals

For me, this is a staple. I genuinely use it on my dinners on an average of 3 times a week. Balancing between the salty and the sweet really well, this rub is a great, non-offensive seasoning for everyone. With no MSG, no gluten, no preservatives and no colouring, you can feed this one to just about anyone, and you’d be supporting an Australian-made product at the same time. It’s a win/win!

  1. Charcoal Chicken by Atomic Chicken

If you long for that specific taste that lingers in the recesses of your memory of going down to the local charcoal chicken joint with your mates on the weekend, this one’s for you. That beautiful smoky char flavour is present in this rub, whether you’re cooking over the coals or not. A fan favourite at our store, if you give it a try, you’re bound to be one too.

  1. Greek Gyros by Flaming Coals

This rub is the most popular in our store. By quite a margin. It is indeed great on chicken, but it also pairs magnificently with lamb and pork. Intentionally, being quite a thin rub allows it to soak into the chicken a bit faster than some of the other rubs that have slightly larger granules, so you can enjoy its great flavour on more than just the surface. And just like the Clucking Mad, it’s made right here in Australia with no MSG, no gluten, no preservatives and no colouring.

  1. Hot Dirty Bird by Kosmos Q

If you’re like me, sometimes, you just need a little bit of spice to make things interesting. That’s where this rub shines. Having that little bit of extra heat to it, but not enough to take away from the great flavour of the Dirt Bird series from Kosmos Q, means this rub is constantly in my rotation. Different people can handle spice to varying degrees, so I would recommend you try it for yourself before cooking for everyone.

  1. Scout by Butchers Axe

Sometimes, you just need something a little different. This rub has a much lighter flavour profile and works splendidly with both chicken and fish, thanks to the lemon and pepper. Absolutely perfect for those warmer summer days with a big green leafy salad and chicken with some freshly squeezed lemon over the top.
