The Pulse is not compatible with older FireBoard models (e.g. FBX11). It's designed to work specifically with the FireBoard 2 series. However, Fireboard have not ruled out adding this functionality in the future.

Does the Pulse work as a standalone device without a FireBoard?

Yes, the FireBoard Pulse can work as a standalone device by connecting directly to your smartphone via Bluetooth.
