PELLET SMOKERS

If you love the idea of smoking meat, but don't like the idea of manning a fire all day and would prefer to spend more time entertaining your friends and family, look no further than a pellet smoker. Also known as a pellet grill, pellet smokers have been around for decades. They take the concept of smoking meat in an offset smoker and automate it through the implementation of a pallet hopper that is connected to an auger which slowly spins and feeds the burn chamber in the smoker. This is all automated so you can set your desired cooking temperature in your pellet smoker and walk away. This is the easier way to smoke food at home.

Internally, the electronics are a fair bit more advanced these days as to when the original pellet grill was invented by Joe Traeger back in 1985. They now all have high tech integrated circuits that allow you to control temperature, control the smoke intensity, check the temperature of your meat and even automatically adjust the cooking temperature when your meat hits predetermined internal temperatures. This can all be done from the comfort of your sun lounge with a beer in hand via an app on your phone. Can it really get any easier?

Pellet smokers are now available in a range of sizes and budgets, simple-to-use models or fully automated. Pellet smokers are designed for people that want to achieve the authentic wood smoking taste without any of the effort required by traditional offset smokers. Place flavoured wood smoking pellets in the hopper, choose your desired cooking temperature and let the pellet grill do all the work for you.

If this all sounds a little too easy for you and would like to smoke using lump charcoal or timber splits then the next easiest smoker to use would have to be an efficient Kamado Ceramic Smoker. This is perfect for home use when you are looking to smoke a brisket or a couple of racks of ribs. If you want a bit more versatility then a Kettle BBQ can offer you the option of smoking, grilling and spit roasting. If you want to cook more meat then the next best option would be an offset smoker or a reverse flow smoker. Finally, if you want to smoke a commercial quantity of meat then you can't for past a larger gravity feed smoker for volume and ease of use.

BBQ Spit Rotisseries are proudly Australian-owned with retail stores located in Sydney and Melbourne however we can also ship to your door Australia-wide. We sell various pellet smokers and grills from well-known manufacturers such as Traeger, CampChef, GMG Smoker, Pit Boss, and Yoder pellet grills.

Pellet Grill Smokers FAQ - Pellet Smoker Australia

How far should a pellet smoker be from the house? +

When you are using a pellet smoker, an important factor to consider is where you will place your smoker. If you place it too close to the house, or in a garage, the smoke and heat can cause problems. If you place it too far away, then the wireless connection may not communicate with your device or you may not be able to see if something goes wrong. In this blog post, we will discuss the best placement for your pellet smoker so that you can enjoy smoked meats without any problems!

Pellet smokers produce a fair amount of smoke and heat, so it is important to place them away from any combustible materials and in open areas. This means that you should not place your pellet smoker under an awning or right next to your house where there is a door close by. If you have a deck, make sure there is plenty of ventilation for the smoke to escape. The best location for your pellet smoker is in a spot that is at least ten feet away from any buildings or other structures.

Another thing to consider when placing your pellet smoker is wind direction. You want the smoke to blow away from the house, so be sure to place the smoker accordingly. If you live in an area with high winds, you may need to experiment with different locations to find a spot that works best for you. Also, don't forget that a smoker in the wind takes longer to cook.

In our opinion you should place the smoker within wifi rage if you have a wifi-connected smoker, it should be in an open area but also in a location that is protected from wind and rain. Pellet smokers don't radiate as much heat as offset smokers so if you had to you could put it along a wall near your home but make sure you have a fire extinguisher close by just in case something goes wrong.

Once you have found the perfect location for your pellet smoker, it is important to make sure that it is level. This will help ensure that the smoker cooks evenly and the fat drains into the catch can.

Now that you know how to properly place your pellet smoker, you can enjoy smoked meats without any worries!

Why is smoke coming out of my pellet hopper? +

Why Is Smoke Coming Out of my Pellet Hopper? A Troubleshooting Guide

In this article, we'll walk you through some common causes of smoke and how to troubleshoot them. We'll also provide some tips on how to keep your pellet smoker in top condition so that you can avoid these problems altogether!

Smoke coming out of your pellet smoker is not a good sign - it means that something isn't working properly. First thing is to smell the smoker to confirm if it is electrical of from the pellets. If the smoke is electrical, switch off the mains power immediately and contact the distributor.

One common cause of smoke coming from your pellet smoker is a dirty fire pot. Over time, ash and debris can build up in the fire pot, causing it to smoulder and restrict airflow. It is recommended to inspect your firepot before every cook and vacuum it clean if there is substantial buildup.

Some smokers have a reverse function that pushes the pellets back into the hopper so you can empty them and change the flavour. If this somehow is activated during the cook then smoke will be pushed backwards and exit the pellet hopper.

If you're still having trouble with smoking, it's possible that there is an issue with your grill or smoker. If you've cleaned the fire pot and made sure that your pellets are dry, but you're still seeing smoke, contact a qualified technician for assistance. They will be able to diagnose the problem and get your grill or smoker up and running again in no time!

At what temperature do wood pellets smoke? +

In order for wood pellets to smoke, they must be lit. As the old saying goes, where there's smoke there's fire. Well, when there is no fire, there is no smoke. Pellets produce the most smoke when they are smouldeing and glowing. If pellets catch a lite then the smoke decreases but the heat produced increases by them increases. Due to the composition of pellets, you can use devices such as cold smoking trays that you can light one side and make sure the pellets catch on fire. After about 3 seconds, blow out the flame and the smouldering pellets will smoulder with a lot of smoke all the way around the cold smoker maze.

Can I leave my smoker on overnight? +

Pellet smokers are designed to be a “Set and forget” method of smoking. Simply set the pellet smoker to the desired temperature and as long as you don’t run out of power or pellets, you’re smoker will keep smoking away all night. If your smoker has not got audio alarms, we would recommend the use of a remote meat thermometer to measure your smoking and meat temperature during your cook and alarm you if something goes wrong. It is also a good idea to keep the smoker well away from any combustible materials just in case there is a malfunction.
